What is awareness?
Awareness means treating each other with respect and respecting individual boundaries. It is important to be aware of forms of and structural discrimination in society. This includes listening to those affected, believing them and acting according to their needs.
These are the three principles of awareness:
1. Consensus
Individual boundaries are respected. Only yes means yes.
2. Power of definition
The person affected always determines where a boundary has been crossed and has the right to decide how to proceed after the incident.
3. Partiality
The perception of the person affected is not questioned – solidarity comes first.
What does this look like at the party on February 27?
We want to create a safer space – a space that is as free from discrimination as possible. To this end, our awareness team will be present from 8 p.m. on wearing purple vests.
We are available to talk to you at any time – if you experience or observe inappropriate behaviour, feel uncomfortable or need a calmer place. Everything you share with us will be treated confidentially and we will act according to your needs.
There is an awareness-room at the party where you can talk to an awareness person. The room is only accessible via one step.
What we do not tolerate:
Any form of discriminatory behaviour, such as racism, sexism, antisemitism, ableism, queerphobia and classism.
Violence and transgression of any kind.
Reckless alcohol and drug consumption.
Disclaimer:
We would like to point out that as a team, we do not have experience with all issues related to discrimination.
Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee a completely safe space.
Our aim is for us all to look out for each other, respect boundaries and take responsibility together!
